What exactly is a Hogshead?

A hogshead cask is a large wooden cask, historically used for storing and transporting liquids like beer, wine, and spirits. Hogsheads were commonly used in colonial America and Britain as a standard measure for beer. They were used to deliver beer to pubs, although their large size (often around 65 US gallons) meant they were suitable only for busy establishments where the beer could be consumed quickly.
